I don’t normally wade in on arguments, but I’ve seen a few posts today about how editors charge too much. For a copy edit, I charge £10 per 1k words. I cover 1-3k words per hour, depending on the input required. That’s after I’ve read a good portion of the MS to note the style.

Editors are underpaid and undervalued. I’ve been an editor, hired them, and supervised them. Good editors are as rare as diamonds bc it’s a specialized skill & takes talent. But the pub industry itself undervalues editors & has never paid them what they’re worth.

Caligula. I was 18 but I don’t think there is an age that’s appropriate for that film. Most horrifying: I saw it with my dad and brother. My brother picked it for a family movie night. (I picked Local Hero.) The GIF search didn’t turn up an actual clip, which is a good thing.
