My brilliant student Anay Mehrotra and amazing post-doc Alkis Kalavasis just won the Best Paper Award at COLT 2025! Clearly, they’ve cracked the code: do great math, write a killer paper, take home the trophy. Huge congratulations to both of them. Now please don’t forget your

On Monday, I'll be presenting a tutorial on jailbreaking LLMs + the security of AI agents with Hamed Hassani and Amin Karbasi at ICML. I'll be in Vancouver all week -- send me a DM if you'd like to chat about jailbreaking, AI agents, robots, distillation, or anything else!

Wildly impressive. Humanity’s greatest mental exercise, mathematics, is being tackled by what is essentially glorified next-token prediction.

If you are interested in safety/security jailbreaking of LLMs, defenses against them, and how the safety issues become more complicated when we design agentic workflows, this tutorial by Hamed Hassani, Amin Karbasi, Alex Robey is highly recommended

Coding matters not because of the act of coding, but because there is much more to coding, like the whole computer science.

My longtime collaborator Dave Patterson (long-time faculty at UC Berkeley, Association for Computing Machinery Turing Award winner, and fellow Laude Institute board member) wrote a very good op-ed about how continued investing in basic science and technology research is essential for the U.S. Dave

Loved reading this. The only comment I have is that the cost of compute (how much you pay for an hour of GPU) has reduced dramatically in the last 3 years (i.e, it has not doubled).

We are wired to see our own best and others' worst. Maturity is flipping the lens: Be a generous fan of others and a tough editor of yourself! Self-awareness is underrated!
