The City of South Lake Tahoe just released information advising only essential travel into the #SouthLakeTahoe basin

Travel is not advised at this time. Highway 50 is the only pass open and traffic is congested. Driving up Kingsbury will not get you to your destination any faster, we are seeing delays there as well. If you can make plans to stay, we recommend you do.

Nevada State Police are turning around all westbound traffic on HWY 50 and Kingsbury Grade. Please do not use those routes. Only essential travel is advised at this time.

The 1-month difference of Lake Tahoe from space is striking. From snowless terrain on December 2nd to a deep snowpack on January 1st, 200+ percent of normal. The Tahoe region experienced its snowiest December since at least 1970, with the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab picking up 214 inches of snow.

On the left is Lake Tahoe last month and on the right is Tahoe this week. Went from 18% of normal to 147% of normal today.
