Why I wrote "The Reluctant Mentor": It might sound strange, but I strongly relate to my protagonist. I may not be a retiring-aged wizard, but I can sympathize with his crotchetyness when it comes to bureaucracy, his introverted tendencies, his bad knees, and his love of good ale!

Why I wrote The Reluctant Mentor: It may have started with the idea of, "What if Gandalf or Merlin were absolute screw-ups?" But when I dug into Athragast's story, I wanted this grumpy old wizard to finally find his happy ending. And I didn't stop writing until he did!
