King rails are extremely secretive birds. Except this one, who climbed atop the foliage and posed for me for 10 minutes.

You might remember me saying I was nearly at the end of my sandhill crane photos from two weeks ago. I found another colt this morning, this one barely out of the egg. It couldn't walk without falling on its beak every twenty seconds.

Red-shouldered.

It's always wonderful when you try out a new location and find neat stuff. Chock full of yellow-throated warblers, and they were a-ok with giving me plenty of looks.

They were behind a rise, but a bear cub playfully nips its mother's chin.

I found a familiar web pattern on the handle of my garbage can. I turned the can over and coaxed out a brown widow spider.

The only photo worth salvaging, and the only photo I was really excited to take the whole morning (of course). A juvenile king rail. I really wish there hadn't been so much camera shake, forcing me to resort to sharpening.

Got home and saw that most of my photos from this morning were a little soft. Looked at my lens and realized the stabilization off-on switch had gotten flipped at some point. Maybe one or two of these are salvageable.
