This is a great scene, but it should’ve been put earlier in the film when Clark was being bullied by the guy at the bar. Seeing another Jonathan flashback after we’d already seen him die felt wrong and takes away some of the sense of loss.

I like this explanation. Still don't think Superboy should be a public figure before Superman, but this is as good an explanation as any.
