I noticed many said empathy and I read that in the book as well and was wondering if empathy comes before or at the same times as identification? #altedchat

A2: I've seen this in gender identification situations where the parent chooses a version of planA that does not totally embrace their student or their choices. In my experiences, Ss benefit the most when everyone listens to the student's concerns. #altedchat

A3: I think empathy starts before the S has a problem. In my experience, Ss are more willing to open up if YOU have earned THEIR trust. #altedchat
