What is an #altcite, you ask? Altcites are alternative citations, the other voices, the non-canonical ideas. Altcites are anti-zeitgeist, off-trend but on-point, heterodox not orthodox. altcite will be launching at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) from Tuesday August 28th 2018. #RGSIBG18 Join us!

Happy preconferencing everyone at #RGSIBG18! If you are headed to an event for the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) conference today, we're trying out our project #altcite - giving space to citations other than those in front of you - under-cited, new perspectives, new (and renewed) ways of thinking.

How do you #altcite? It's not exact, but something like: 1. Attend conference or event 2. Engage with some great ideas 3. Think of perspectives or voices you'd also like to see cited in the session 4. Tweet the details with the #altcite hashtag altcite 5. We'll add to the list!

If you'd like to share #altcite at the #RGSIBG18, look for our little stickers that will be doing the rounds - wear them, stick them in clear view, or save for another conference! Show your love for altcite + share your alternative citations during sessions with #altcite.

And we’d add Hope Nicholson and Cherie Dimaline, and the wonderful anthology, Walking In The Clouds edited by Grace Dillon to that list :-)

Another #altcite on #algorithmicwar. It isn’t just in academia that good research Is routinely overlooked or miscredited. The Guardian and other news media could consider wider citational practices too.

Tired of the all-male panels and articles on the #Balkans without female voices, I'm trying to make the excuses harder by creating a #WomenAlsoKnowBalkans list of brilliant female researchers & practitioners working in/on the Balkans: x.com/EBStavrevska/l…. Who else to add?

If you're at the #aag2019 #aagdc you might find #altcite useful. We launched @rgsibg 2018 to keep track of citations that were absent and overlooked. During a session just tweet altcite with suggested missing citations. If you can help monitor the account this week, please DM.
