Bad fire science gets used to silence deep time indigenous knowledge and perspectives on fire. I'll be talking about some of the ways this happens and what the effects are this Thursday RSV and online. rsv.org.au/events/decolon…

For those who want to discuss the ongoing record-breaking 🔥 season in Canada, I made several informative maps to stimulate debates with hard facts. Feel free to suggest updates and some information/data that may be added (codes are ready to run!). 🧵👇 1/5

The scientific consensus for #ClimateChange and that is is caused by human activities is 96-100%. People think it's just 60-70% of climate scientists, because bots and climate change deniers flood social media and newspapers with false data, lies and fossil fuel propaganda.

Not to be alarmist but…this is what’s called a six-sigma event, now unfolding in Antarctica. Otherwise known as a once-in-7.5-million-year event. Hang onto your hats. HT Prof. Eliot Jacobson

🧊Antarctic Sea Ice — look at that 📉crash. Number explainer: for those who need a crash course in statistics—anything lower than X Standard Deviations means there is Y likelihood it deviated from normal sea ice levels by chance: -3 SD = 0.27% chance -4 SD = 0.0063% chance -5 SD

While Antarctica melts, the Anthony Albanese government cuts its funding and continues with coal and gas expansions. Unbelievable. Infuriating. Dystopian. theguardian.com/australia-news…

Bjørn Lomborg notes global area burned is decreasing, not increasing. We know this is because more forests are now crops; the forests themselves are burning far more often. He tried similar spin in 2020 using my research; here was my response. meanjin.com.au/blog/the-unlea…

Unprecedented times. Today’s visit to the Sphinx snow patch at Braeriach will be my last of 2023. It is now critically small and likely to vanish in the next few days. This will be the third consecutive disappearance and unheard of in the historical era (post 1750s). (1/3)

Hi-Res Models are suggesting ski resort-level temperatures to exceed those record-breaking temps of yesterday. Here's the departure from '91-20 climatological temps at resort level ~1500m ASL for next Monday. +12°C above normal. #heatwave #ausweather

One aim of yesterday’s walk was to see if Scotland’s last relic of the previous winter persisted at Aonach Beag. It did, but only just. In a couple of days’ time, Scotland will be snow-free for the second consecutive year. This has *never* happened since records began (1700s).
