Today the church remembers George Herbert (1593–1633), an Anglican priest and poet who wrote several texts that we still use as hymns. ‘Let all the world in every corner sing, My God and King!’

Today the church remembers a medieval mystic named after the church to which she attached herself. Her short book, Revelations of Divine Love, is the earliest surviving writing in English by a woman. julianshrine.org

Following the conversion of her son, Emperor Constantine, to Christianity in 312, Helena visited Palestine and identified many holy sites, including the place of the crucifixion and burial/resurrection of Christ. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre stands on the site today.

After Mary had been visited by the angel Gabriel, she rushed off to Judea to visit her cousin Elizabeth, which the church celebrates today. It’s the occasion when Mary sang the Magnificat (‘My soul doth magnify the Lord’). Come and hear it at our evensong tomorrow at 6pm!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Today is Trinity Sunday, when we celebrate that we know God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: three persons yet one God.
