The classic "if you smash it up enough it's no longer habitat" being used to undermine a rare example of Species at Risk Act emergency order: cbc.ca/news/canada/mo…

Pls retweet! Susan Gordon is leading an analysis of species at risk legislation in provinces/territories. If anyone is an expert in subnational SAR legislation, in prairies and territories in particular, we'd love to chat.

Call for evidence! I'm conducting a review w/ Parks Canada on the effectiveness of no-take protection zones in lake ecosystems (fish sanctuaries, FPAs, APAs). Looking for gray lit or articles WoS might have missed. Thanks! Pic from my fav FPA in the Rideau Canal Waterway. :)

Calling all 🇨🇦 #datascience + #bird nerds! We are hiring an MSc student to explore better ways to monitor #petrels on Antarctic islands using #PAM (passive #acoustics). Funded by the Agreement on the Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels 1/2

Field research for my PDF with Spectral remote sensing lab and @AnneKSalomon is in full swing! The last 6 wks have been a whirlwind of beautiful travel along the BC coast as we work with First Nations and other researchers to evaluate drivers of kelp-encrusting bryozoans. My heart is so full.

Ability to detect species in a survey is a huge issue in conservation. And it's often ignored. There are some reasonably easy ways to account for it: esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10… Rachel Buxton (she/her) Emma J. Hudgins Allison Binley Jordanna N. Bergman Dalal Hanna, PhD

Collecting #biodiversity data is a cornerstone of #conservation research, but how do we know when we have enough to act? Check out our new paper in Methods in Ecology and Evolution

So-called 'negative results' still often go unpublished - leading to systematic bias in the literature But tools to reduce bias (like Registered Reports) are spreading nature.com/articles/d4158…
