This weekend, I was proud to join my colleague, Rep. Beth Helfrich for NC in Huntersville, to knock doors and talk to voters about their concerns, from DMV to premiums. She is a champion for government doing its job & doing right by the people. We need more people in politics like her!

With Medicaid in danger for children and families and rising costs, the NC General Assembly needs to step up for the people with a responsive state budget. The state budget is now nearly 2 months late. The people of North Carolina deserve much better.

Today we honor Ret. U.S. Army SGT Michael Verardo. Governor Josh Stein ordered all US & NC flags to be lowered to half-staff today. Verardo served with All American Division (inactive) & was catastrophically wounded in Afghanistan in 2010. Despite his injuries, he continued to support wounded vets.

Political violence of any kind has no place. We must condemn this horrible act of violence that has taken the life of Charlie Kirk. We have to do right by each other, respect one another and treat people with dignity.

24 years after September 11, we continue to remember and hold in our hearts the lives of the people we lost and the bravery of the people who ran toward danger. Let us be unified and committed to one another as Americans and as people. #NeverForget911

Yesterday Sydney Batch Leader Robert Reives Sen. Graig Meyer and I joined UNC Young Democrats to talk to and hear from students about the lack of a state budget, rising costs facing young people and families and threats to Medicaid. They are engaged and taking action to turn our state around!

Another session, another week without a state budget. Republican legislative leadership hasn’t agreed on a budget to the disappointment and frustration of North Carolinians. No pay raises, no relief from skyrocketing costs, no agreement on Medicaid Rebase. ednc.org/09-22-2025-gov…

The Healthy Opportunities Pilot is a casualty of inaction by Republican leadership to fund Medicaid in NC. This program saved money & helped our most vulnerable. Medicaid shouldn’t be a partisan issue. It’s a basic duty of government. nytimes.com/2025/09/29/hea…

We have the power to put together a state budget to better fund public schools & children, pay state employees better salaries and fund Medicaid. Instead, at Trump’s request, Republican legislative leaders want to roll out new congressional maps! wral.com/story/north-ca…

Thanks to UNC public health students for hosting me for a Q&A to share the latest on Medicaid funding gap, state budget delay & impact on healthcare access. Students posed sharp questions on what it means for North Carolinians. Clear takeaway: the General Assembly must act now!

What the GOP-led General Assembly is about to do this week further ignores real issues facing North Carolinians - skyrocketing food, housing & healthcare costs. We’re 1 of 2 states now that hasn’t passed a state budget. Instead, it’s about to pass new maps to disempower voters.

This week, the Grosevenor Garden Tour allowed state legislators a chance to see a great model for inclusive, affordable housing for North Carolinians with I/DD. This collaborative between HOPE NC, CASA & Alliance Health has created needed options for community living!

Due to uncertainty at the federal and state levels, 1.4 million vulnerable North Carolinians don’t know if they’ll have food benefits next month. If you live in Orange Co and you’re facing this uncertainty or know someone who is, please spread the word about help here in Orange.

Our state’s Medicaid is running out of money, and it’s getting worse. People shouldn’t have to worry if they’ll have health care. I support Gov. Stein’s call for an extra legislative session to fund Medicaid & give North Carolinians some peace of mind. wral.com/news/state/ste…
