We must not delude ourselves in this moment. Multiracial democracy in the United States is less than 60 years old. It has always been contested, often violently so. It has always been fragile. Since this nation's inception large swaths of white Americans -- including white women

"Newsom loves to tout that CA is world’s 5th-largest economy but he doesn’t often discuss that the state has nation’s highest poverty rate when cost of living is taken into account... To cut the cost of living he could follow through on his promise to build 3.5 million new homes"

So tonight we’ve learned – despite all the Trump bluster – House Republicans are proposing more tax cuts for the wealthy, increasing its already bloated costs, while harshly failing to deliver for millions of families he promised to help.

To get an idea of Republican tax bill on the Child Tax Credit: Picture a couple with 2 kids living in a fancy suburb, making $400k. A thousand $ more for them. For the kids of the people who cut their grass, deliver their packages, watch their kids, clean their house: Nothing

New: JCT scores Ways and Means' tax bill at $3.7 trillion That means W&M is under even the lower $4T of room the committee had to work w/ bc spending cuts came in below $2T Gives House GOP leadership some breathing room on pieces like SALT if needed punchbowl.news/x-22-25/?utm_s…

Increasing the maximum CTC to $2,500 per child would provide $22.9 billion of CTC benefits to families with children per year, mainly to middle- and higher-income families. tpc.io/4kdPaCT

The House Republican tax bill is fully released and now under review. The bill is a recklessly expensive gift to the wealthy that also weaponizes the tax code to go after universities, the nonprofit sector, undocumented immigrants, and others. itep.org/itep-statement…

Visiting the ER for a broken leg could cost ~$21,328 if someone loses Medi-Cal and becomes uninsured. That’s almost 10 months of rent for a 2bdr apt in LA County. House Republican budget proposal would end #MediCal for millions & drive up the housing crisis. #FightForOurHealth

House Republicans’ new budget bills promise widespread harm to people & communities in every state across the U.S. One way they seek to hide these harmful impacts is by slashing federal funding & then passing the buck to state & local gov’ts to make the toughest choices & cuts.🧵

The upside-down & costly federal tax bill is currently being marked up in the House Ways & Means cmte. According to the Joint Cmte on Taxation, more than 40% of benefits would go to top 5%, and the top 1% alone would get 1/5 of all benefits. jct.gov/publications/2…

More analysis on just how skewed to the rich the GOP tax plan is: -avg tax cut of nearly $65K for the top 1% -just $90 for the bottom 20% - which is completely wiped out by the impact of tariffs. And that's not even factoring in impacts of health & food assistance cuts yet.

Our work to make the JCT tables a little more comprehensible—household in the middle gets a tax cut less than 1/2 as large as a share of income as the top 1%. Tax cut for the bottom 20% is one seventh as large while facing cuts to health care and nutrition.

Some Republican members of the House Agriculture Committee don’t seem to understand how the House Agriculture Committee’s SNAP cost-shift proposal would hurt their state. We can help! ā¤µļø

The SNAP cuts have grown from a more than 20% cut to SNAP to a roughly 30% cut to SNAP. The biggest cut to food assistance in history is just getting bigger.
