Karina Collado says she was sexually assaulted by a correction officer on Rikers in 2020. She reported the alleged abuse as she was told to, but it was never investigated. Now, that same officer is facing charges of raping a woman outside the jail. gothamist.com/news/rikers-gu…

Grateful to hear Jessy Edwards in convo w/ Matt Katz on The Brian Lehrer Show and A Daily Politics Podcast. The ASA was always about opening the civil system to those w/o prior access. The hundreds of survivors who have filed suit are extraordinary when they shouldn't have to be. gothamist.com/news/he-was-of…

I know everybody is going to get these jokes off about Diddy, and by extension R Kelly, but think of the numerous Black women whose lives were ruined by these horrendous people. The narrative is not, another Black man got taken down — cause this ain’t got shit to do with Black

Alison Turkos (@alisonturkos) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Black women did this. Survivors did this. Their exhaustive and relentless work did this. They were ignored for years, gaslit and belittled by their peers and the system. They should not have to be this “strong, brave and resilient”. Survivors are magic, love them and honor them❤️

Praying for each and every one of Diddy’s victims and survivors. None of you deserved what he did. And none of you deserved to allow it to happen while others, namely straight men, sat and watched it happen.

Alison Turkos (@alisonturkos) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This has happened, it’s been happening. Drew Dixon is a shining example. And there are so many Black women who have been sharing their stories and doing work to create safer and supportive spaces in the industry.

I highly recommend reading through the 14-page federal indictment against Diddy and then comparing it the accusations in Cassie’s lawsuit. She seemingly cracked this case wide open, and we collectively owe her a huge debt. I hope she is safe, well, and cared for immensely today.

I can promise you from personal experience that the most frequent targets of gender harassment in women's bathrooms in the era of bathroom bans will be cis women who do not look stereotypically feminine in some way.

.Charlotte Bennett is a national treasure. When folks ask why survivors don’t come forward to share their stories or seek justice, point them to the actions of men like Andrew Cuomo. Yesterday we celebrated the verdict in France. We also need to acknowledge what’s happening here.

thinking of the incarcerated fire fighters who are out there risking their lives for their fellow californians, with little to no benefits, slave wage pay, and the inability to use their skills upon release.

Hi non-LA friends! Please do not call/text to ask if we’re OK! During wildfires it's VERY IMPORTANT to keep the lines open for locals and emergency notifications ONLY. Service may drop and we will need to prioritize who we contact. Thank you ❤️

One billionaire couple owns almost all the water in California. In 1994, the Resnicks secretly seized control of California’s public water supply. Now their companies use 150 billion gallons every year while working class people suffer under drought conditions.

Now’s a good time to remember California JUST voted to keep unpaid/criminally underpaid prison labor (slavery) and that a lot of the people affected by that vote are the ones fighting to save our city right now. npr.org/2024/07/18/nx-…

I was kidnapped and raped in 2017 by a Lyft driver. I reported to NYPD Special Victims almost immediately. They failed me, horrifically. I filed a lawsuit against NYPD in January 2019. I was one of the survivors who worked exhaustively for U.S. Department of Justice investigation. We deserve better.

So much love to Charlotte Bennett who can finally close another chapter in the trauma she’s endured, all because she demanded she be treated with dignity and respect. 🖤

In 2019, I sued the City of New York for systemic sex discrimination by the NYPD. Yesterday, we made history with a landmark settlement requiring NYPD reforms in sex crimes investigations. It wasn't politicians who made this happen; it was survivors. gothamist.com/news/nypd-agre…
