Labour were out of power for 14 long years. In July they were handed one of largest majorities in political history. The very next day they declared war on children in poverty and our pensioners. Their 14 years of wait unleashed a full throated attack on the weakest in society

The Labour Party said tough decisions had to be made to help plug a £22bn black hole so their first choice was to remove the universal winter fuel payment meaning that many pensioners will be faced with an even tougher choice this winter, whether to eat or heat.

A poorly thought out ‘choice’ within 3 weeks of taking office which coincides with energy price cap increases of 10%. No consultations or impact assessments carried out before making their choice so older people were given no time to budget or prepare for winter. Shameful!

Labour currently have 404 MPs but just one of them – yes just a single 1 - voted to save the winter fuel payment today.

Well of course they didn’t do the right thing!

Deeply angered to see the vote to cut the winter fuel payment. A continuance of austerity measures that hits the poorest the worst have done nothing but immiserate this country further. We all deserve better. Is this Gov desperate to continue the legacy of their predecessors?
