I have two ways I annotate my R code: 1. Full, descriptive sentences written as if I am speaking to another person. 2. Absolutely no annotation, usually occurring with code that is particularly chaotic and indecipherable even to me.

Today I learned that Fall Out Boy made a cover of “We Didn’t Start the Fire.” A wonderful reminder to always consider whether your research is actually contributing to the existing literature.

Announcement: my mentor (Dr. Justin Karr, Justin E. Karr, Ph.D.) is planning on taking at least 1 PhD student in Fall 2024. Our lab focuses on traumatic brain injuries among survivors of intimate partner violence and related biopsychosocial health outcomes!

My VA CDA-1 application was recommended for funding! Woohoo 🎉 For those in the thick of CDA applications, my first submission was described as “confusing, disappointing, and somewhat off-putting.” 😅 And it eventually got funded! There’s hope!

Made my first APA style table in #RStats using apaTables! I’m either crying for the hours this will save me in the future or for the hours I previously wasted making tables by hand. But either way, I’m crying 😭

Last night my partner asked me to help edit an email. My cat is locked in a constant battle with him for my full and undivided attention. She thought she won last night, but I still finished the email!

People don’t choose suicide because it was the best of 17 options they were considering. They choose suicide because they are so distressed they can’t think of the 16 others.

A great introduction to Bayesian stats for someone who, at this point, should probably stop “introducing” herself to Bayes and just start doing it… #APS24SF

If you have a leadership job, then you also have a kindness job. Yes, there is work to get done and goals to meet. But we also have a responsibility to leverage our authority and decision making capability to uphold human dignity.

Sadly, we still default to granting more respect to men than women. 8 studies: we're >2x as likely to call male politicians, athletes, teachers, and authors by their last names. It matters: surnames signal higher status. It's long past time to use consistent standards.

Sadly, we still default to granting more respect to men than women.
