Favorite part of the night was Carolyn Bertozzi pointing out that we step on more molecules in a single step than all the molecules humanity has ever discovered!

Can we learn protein biology from a language model? In new work led by Liam Bai and me, we explore how sparse autoencoders can help us understand biology—going from mechanistic interpretability to mechanistic biology.

Protein function often depends on protein dynamics. To design proteins that function like natural ones, how do we predict their dynamics? Hannah Wayment-Steele and I are thrilled to share the first big, experimental datasets on protein dynamics and our new model: Dyna-1! 🧵

A few months ago, I started investing small cheques into companies w/ KP. It’s been enjoyable supporting friends and founders doing interesting work. If you’re working on an idea or raising in ML, bio, hardware, let’s chat more!!

Joining forces with Babak Alipanahi, Hormozdiari Lab, Aiden M Sababi & Mehran Karimzadeh to bring you Exai-1; a multi-modal cell-free RNA foundation model for blood surveillance and liquid biopsy. Kudos to the broader exai bio team for getting this across the line. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Super cool resource that touches on some of the tools we need to build! Especially love the focus on developing high-res in situ imaging, modelling + spatial multiplexing to capture dynamic cell states in real time

Just watched a documentary on Jocelyn Bell Burnell’s work and feeling so inspired by her story — discovering pulsars, being discredited when the work got the Nobel Prize, but later using her prize money to fund physics research. Her perseverance is truly admirable :)
