However, petrol prices rose by 12% from last year. This is a worry as petrol rises tend to lead future inflation. The faster we can transition to an electric vehicle fleet, and high-quality accessible public transport, the better. Which sadly is the opposite of what we are doing

Budget 2024 is out and it delivered tax cuts as promised in the election campaign. It was funded with spending cuts and increased borrowing. The spending relative to GDP is useful to understand. See thread below for the high level numbers.

It’s not right that the government can find $2.9 billion for landlords but can’t afford life-saving drugs.

Rising unemployment means more and more families struggling just to get by. The Government has no plan to keep people in work and are making life harder for unemployed people by attacking their right to access benefits. They are out of touch with the realities of working people.

I try to be constructive and measured in my criticism of Ministers so it truly pains me to say this, but the Prime Minister’s speech to local government just now was one of the most mana diminishing, paternalistic and visionless speeches to a group of people I have ever heard.
