This is terrifying! A GP sued because 20 YEARS AGO he didn’t stress ‘strongly enough’ the benefits of folic acid to a pt …who’s child, now 20, has a neural tube defect that isn’t even linked to folic acid deficiency?! We stand with you Dr Mitchell. #IAmPhilipMitchell

What if the reason why we're all burned out is because the productivity norms of our profession are based on white men whose wives who took care of everything from cooking to copyediting for them a century ago?

Read this bile in full and the main causes of sickness were: - mental health problems - back pain - infectious diseases I wonder why there would be an above-average incidence of these amongst staff working physically and emotionally demanding jobs on a resource-deprived NHS? 🤔

Appreciate people are calling for more FY1 jobs, but let’s be real - what would we even DO with the extra FYs other than improve patient safety and doctor wellbeing by running a robustly-staffed service with more time for professional development and a greater buffer for illness?

The GMC offers its workers private healthcare as a perk. The GMC is funded by #NHS doctors. In turn, we're funding their private healthcare. Doctor pay has been cut, NHS is desperate for money, yet our cash is going to the hands of private insurers. The whole thing is absurd.

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it a thousand times: The treatment for an ectopic pregnancy, a septic uterus, or a miscarriage that your body won’t release is abortion. If you can’t get those abortions, you die. You. Die.

An update: I submitted a Freedom of Information request to the GMC regarding their spending on private health insurance. In 2021, they spent £450k on it. That's half a million pounds of doctors' money going to private insurers. We're funding this nonsense. We need reform.

Rishi Sunak has claimed that to pay a 10% pay rise to all public sector employees will cost each household in the UK £1,000. This is what I call CRAp - which stands for a ‘completely rubbish approximation’ to the truth. Let me explain…a thread…

For those who don't fully understand what is up with the NHS, here is a thread for you that might help. I'm a consultant physician working as a doctor in the NHS in Yorkshire and Wales for 32 years now. I have experienced the NHS at its best (2008) and its worst (2022).
