Our manifesto for social care calls on the government to look at social care not as a problem they don’t want to fix but as a solution for people to live bigger and better lives. unitedresponse.org.uk/more-than-a-pr… Brandon Trust Certitude.London Choice Support Dimensions MacIntyre

“Being put to bed at 5pm - that’s barbaric, isn’t it?” How a senior academic reacted when she investigated what happens to some people with learning disabilities once they hit the age of 40 🎧bit.ly/4d8sb8t

Lots of debate about the NHS being ‘broken’ but is #socialcare also ‘broken’ as Department of Health and Social Care said earlier this week? It’s a crude word and it depends on what you mean. Here’s a quick thread on some things that may or may not be ‘broken’ about social care.

We need to talk about framing. Putting reforming work capability assessments alongside a ‘crack down on fraud’ further stigmatises welfare. There is a huge opportunity in #Budget2024 investing £115m into supported employment but we can not reduce people to their economic activity

The new Health and Social Care Committee has been fast off the mark with this inquiry. The focus on ‘cost of inaction’ will in practice also highlight the ‘value’ of #socialcare and, while there have been many other enquiries into social care, that is particularly welcome. committees.parliament.uk/committee/81/h…

The HM Treasury must amend the Budget to exempt charities providing social care commissioned by councils from the NI rise. Councils can't absorb these costs, meaning VCS providers having to. Some will hand back contracts or face large deficits. People will be left without support

People who draw on social care will be the real losers if the NI employer rise is not mitigated for support providers. We don’t believe the government wants that to happen. But it must act soon to avoid it.

Boris Johnson using the Channel presidential election coverage to promote his failing book is so cringe. Why give him the platform?! #AmericaDecides
