Turns out a job overseas where you can't bring your children with you isn't hugely popular with women.

But that's exactly what the care worker visa changes do. Wonder what this could possibly do to a sector wracked with recruitment & retention issues...

Today, the government is publishing a consultation on the future of PIP.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Almost two thirds of people in destitution have a chronic health condition or disability. People in this position shouldn't be used as a political football. We need action, not rhetoric from politicians.

As the discussion rumbles on, let's not forget that 44% of all households without anyone in work + receiving PIP experienced food insecurity in 2022-23.

Massively paring back PIP without providing any replacement is a road to even deeper hardship for these families.

New data out today from Office for National Statistics (ONS). Food and energy still cost much more than a few years ago, despite muted movements in recent months. After three long years of lagging behind, benefit levels are only now catching up with prices.

Proud to have helped make this report happen - a deep dive into comparable childcare & early education systems abroad to learn from their inner workings & transformations.

Teaches us not only what works but why - & that there are no perfect systems.

Both the level of need & economic contribution can vary across a lifetime.

So it's arguable *some* inequality across age cohorts is justified.

It's inequality *within* cohorts we need to worry about, particularly when driven by inheritance.

It's not possible to have a European level welfare state with US level taxes.

But in trying, the UK may yet achieve European level tax with a US level welfare state.
