The long-standing “Famous Original Ray’s Pizza” in Chelsea has closed. It was one of the handful of locations left of the fabled NYC pizza chain. It’s signage, featuring the red crown logo, still hangs above the shuttered address. If left untouched, it might become a ghost sign.

Today in The Metropolitan Review, a gem by André Aciman. He reflects on a mysterious photograph taken by his father nearly a century ago. Though its meaning was never divulged, Aciman, master of irrealis moods that he is, finds possibility in his father's silence. metropolitanreview.org/p/my-fathers-p…

Renato’s Piccolo Angolo, a petite and beloved West Village institution, closed after over thirty years. Founded in 1992, the soulful little trattoria specialized in Ligurian cuisine and it shuttered due to rising rents.

Closed quietly last month was Coppola’s, which had a modest yet loyal Murray Hill following. Opened in 1998, it witnessed the neighborhood’s transformation into a boulevard of frat bars. It rode some buzz in 2010 after Jessica Simpson went there for an engagement celebration.
