In many ways Yousaf’s fate was sealed early on, owing to the reluctance to definitively move on from the previous leadership. But he played - in broad terms - an important role on Gaza and dealt with outright Islamophobia daily. On this, at least, his voice will be missed.

Yousaf resigning is the right move but, it is worth saying what a loss it is to be losing one of the strongest, most unwavering world leaders on Palestine in the western world. Despite all his mistakes, his leadership on Gaza was inspirational.
