Prioritising social rent within government housing grants is the most efficient use of that grant, as we NEF laid out in our recent report. neweconomics.org/2024/06/switch…

Confirmed that the Treasury will release an extra £500m for building affordable homes in next week’s Budget. Right to Buy discounts will also be reviewed. This is a huge gear change for how Government treats social housing The i Paper inews.co.uk/news/housing/r…

Great news that the govt is investing in social housing, giving more stability to social landlords & curbing RTB. Also good that this is described as a “down payment” on future funding, more of which is needed to tackle the housing crisis in med/long term inews.co.uk/news/housing/r…

NEW: Our analysis shows the government will need to be building 90,000 social homes a year by 2027/28 to meet it's own target to build 1.5m homes by the end of this parliament.

The increase in stamp duty for second homes is very welcome, something Alex Diner and I called for last year But the Chancellor could have gone further, with changes to oversees buyers and national insurance on landlords raising at least another £1bn

More than 4 in 10 council homes sold under right to buy are now owned by private landlords. But in some parts of the country this is much higher - in Brighton 86% of former social homes are let by private landlords. Our work on the devastating impact of right to buy in The Times and The Sunday Times

🏡New research🏡 A price premium for landowners is artificially inflating land prices and blocking the government from building the social homes needed to ease the housing crisis and meet its own housebuilding targets. The price of land drives unaffordable UK house prices.

We look forward to working with the government to make all #SocialHousing buildings safe as quickly as possible. Any long-term plan for remediation cannot ignore the need for funding and we will continue to call for equal access to building safety funding for social housing.

In FT today, our research with Savills reveals 91,000 new #AffordableHomes could be built if #SocialHousing had equal access to #BuildSafety funding. Govt must fund #BuildingSafety in #SocialHousing at #SpendingReview to meet its 1.5m new homes target. ft.com/content/66e547…
