Many engineers don't do well with software design because smart people are used to being right from the start. They think about an abstraction once and expect it to be perfect. The reality is you need a lot more editing.

Everyone who's gained some sort of financial success seems to gravitate towards some sort of art - drawing, music, writing, whatever. Interesting observation.

Why write if you don't want to publish anything? Well, why train if you don't want to compete in the olympics? Writing is exercise for the mind.

I've always aimed for simple implementations because I'm just not smart enough to understand complex ones. I can't maintain them, I can't extend them. And I imagine there are a lot of people just like me.
