Striking fr Tory MP Tim Loughton on lack of legal asylum routes. “I’m a 16yo orphan from an African country escaping a war zone & religious persecution. I have a sibling legally in UK at moment. What is the safe & legal route for me to come to the UK?"

tfw you're sat outside on a wet bench at 8am in December, running a workshop with partners in South Korea via a translator, with 5% battery, waiting for the fire brigade to finish doing their thing inside 🙃

Context: 🔴 45K came on boats last year, '100s of millions' is ludicrous 🔴 At least 6/10 will qualify for refugee status 🔴 They represent <10% of UK net migration in 2022 🔴 UK faces an ageing population and workforce crisis - it's not 'nearly full' by any definition.

28% of adults living in a household with at least one child ran out of food in the past two weeks and couldn't afford any more. That's eight children out of a class of 30 growing up where there is regularly no food at home. It's not right, and it doesn't have to be like this.

This is what people don't get about the two child limit - you could not design a policy more perfectly targeted at increasing child poverty. (I use this chart a lot in talks as it makes the point v clearly).

There is a lot of misinformation circulating right now. Misinformation can result in people being left uninformed & can put lives at risk during a crisis. What we share online can have consequences in the real world. Take time to pause & verify facts.

This is so important 👇 A million children are living in households in the UK that can't afford to stay warm, dry, clean and fed. We should never allow ourselves to just accept this kind of poverty as a fact of life. Everyone deserves their most basic needs met.

Today's poverty stats from the DWP are horrendous. 4.3 million children in relative poverty - the highest ever 3.6 million children in absolute poverty - up 300k 2.2 million children living in "food insecure" households 820k children living in households that use foodbanks
