A charismatic leader. Economic malaise. Enemies within. Expert propaganda. Angry young men. Demonization of “others”. And voted into power. We’ve seen this script before. C’mon America, we don’t want to watch the sequel.

Steve Kerr on the election Kerr: “I believe in democracy. I think the American people have spoken and voted for Trump. I want him to do well the next four years. I want our country to do well.” Kerr (sarcastically): “I'm just thankful there wasn't any voting fraud this time.

Draining the swamp. Assessment of 614 commercial antibodies, targeting a total of 65 neuroscience-related proteins, demonstrated two thirds of them did not work as recommended by manufacturers. Don’t trust, validate aled edwards nature.com/articles/d4158…

Trump got fewer total votes this election than last. 12 million (!!) Democrats just didn’t show up and vote this time. It would have been landslide Harris victory if they had.

Congrats to Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) Board member, Dafydd Owen 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, for leading the team that invented the active ingredient in Paxlovid, which was awarded a #PrixGalien prize last night!

It’s very encouraging that funders support projects like YCharOS, which does not address hypotheses, but rather does the foundational, but not sexy, work of testing and characterizing reagent antibodies in order to make everyone else’s science more robust and reproducible.

The Unites States government is now going to do the grand experiment to test if those loud and opinionated armchair athletes and coaches have what it takes when given the chance to lead the team. I don’t think it’s going to be pretty.

This WD paper reports machine learning applied to DNA-encoded library screening datasets at scale. Bottom line it works. Sometimes. Lots of opportunities to improve. Including by open sourcing models as James has done here. chemrxiv.org/engage/chemrxi…
