Student loans are a tax on upward mobility that penalizes working & lower middle class kids for the crime of not having parents rich enough to cut a check. Tuition at public universities is up more than 2,500% since 1970. Its taxpayer funded class warfare.

It’s way past time to stop defending the Affordable Care Act that makes insurance CEOs obscenely rich and start replacing it with Medicare for All with no premiums, no deductibles, no co-payments - a system that would save $650 billion and 68,000 lives each and every year.

Seizure medication, wheelchairs, Social Security cards, urns of ashes, work uniforms — just some of what's been thrown away during this country's cruel, degrading, utterly counterproductive homeless sweeps. A good time to revisit this ProPublica story: projects.propublica.org/homeless-encam…

Today in Utrecht a grim milestone was marked; for the 2nd year in a row, a Dutch activist group laid out children’s shoes & read aloud the names & ages of the children who have been killed by the Israelis in Gaza. Today they read 19k names. It took almost 6 hours.

Israel murdered a Reuters journalist. In a hospital. As rescue workers tried to recover his body, Israel murdered them. Live on TV. Along with three more journalists. Apparently "it's complicated".

The Associated Press did not bother to mention in their headline the name of the freelancer who worked with them. Well, her name is Maryam Abu Daqqa and here is her photo. Shame on you all racist media who are complicit in Israel’s crimes against humanity.

Israel pioneered this tactic a decade ago: deporting an estimated 4,000 asylum seekers to Uganda and Rwanda, where they faced horrific conditions and were often funneled into deadly trafficking networks. I investigated this shadow deportation system for The New Republic in 2018:

I don’t think people realize how insane it is that the government sent this random guy to a torture prison in El Salvador, admitted they fucked up, fired the guy who admitted they fucked up, and now rather than just drop it they’re sending him to Uganda.

When you design a definition of combatant so broad that everyone, even people wandering into invisible kill zones, even journalists saying things you don’t like, even ambulance drivers at night, are combatants, this statement is meaningless

A Labor Day reminder: today there isn't a single city, county, or state in the U.S. where a full-time minimum-wage worker can afford a modest 2-bedroom apartment. Millions of people with jobs—even multiple jobs—aren't safe from homelessness in America. nytimes.com/2025/03/01/opi…

I don’t think Gaza is “just like” the Holocaust in the same way I don’t think Rwanda or Srebrenica or Armenia or the Hereroland or the US’ Westward Expansion or any other genocide was “just like” the Holocaust. Genocides don’t need to be “just like the Holocaust” to be genocide

Trump ally Larry Ellison, one of the richest men on earth, just took over Paramount and CBS. Now he plans to buy Warner Bros, including CNN.   At a time when 6 major conglomerates control what 90% of Americans see, hear and read, oligarch control over media is getting even worse.
