Landed in Chicago to attend the #ISSTDR2023 #IUSTI2023 conference where we’ll be hearing about all the amazing research on Syphilis, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomoniasis, and others. As odd as this sounds, but exciting week ahead!

I graduated from UAB School of Public Health in 2008 and decided to pursue a career in Global Health. I joined the UAB Heersink School of Medicine Department of UAB Department of Pediatrics and left for Zambia. Today, September 13th 2023, marks my 15th year in #Zambia! What was meant to be a 2-year placement turned into #home.

I would like to thank UAB School of Public Health for inviting me to talk at my Alma Mater, titled "Embracing Hope: Unraveling Maternal Postpartum Depression through Kangaroo Mother Care in Zambia". Around 20% of newly delivered women in Lusaka, #Zambia have #Postpartum #Depression #KMC #NICU

Proud to have been part of this project in #Zambia where we identified barriers and bottlenecks of #CervicalCancer screening and treatment in urban and rural settings. Grateful to Swiss TPH for their partnership and leadership throughout these years.

In our study among WLHIV in Zambia, screening with HPV, VIA and portable colposcope missed 23% of all CIN2+ lesions. When no lesions are visible during colposcopy, a biopsy may still be necessary! Important in clinical settings and research on screening test accuracy.

Interesting yet alarming read about the high rates of #AMR in #NG. “For Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the only remaining first-line treatment (with ceftriaxone) is at risk of becoming ineffective…” Looking forward to contributing to global findings through our study in #Zambia.
