Our Fall Legislative Conference is named after Curtis Oscar Noble, who suddenly and tragically passed in December 2022. Curtis was an incredible leader and advocate for IAFF members. He will not be forgotten.

Yesterday Members of Parliament unanimously passed Bill C-321. This is an important piece of legislation that addresses violence against first responders, including firefighters and paramedics. Next step is for it to go to Senate where we hope they will move the bill forward.

A big thank you to Ministers Matt Jones and Ric McIver for meeting with us today! We had a very productive discussion about strategies for reducing and preventing cancer in the fire service, as well as how we can better support firefighters who receive a cancer diagnosis.

This morning we join locals from across the country to lobby Members of Parliament on the important issues firefighters are facing on and off the fire ground. Safe staffing, cancer legislation and violence against firefighters are all topics that we will be speaking to.
