Happy publication day to Volume 1, Issue 2 of The Turning Leaf Journal! Read the EIC's letter first, then slowly indulge yourself in 22 new definitions, explorations, and reflections on change--that is, after all, what we're all about. 🌿 turningleafjournal.com/v1-2/

My essay "Farewell to the Bleeding Mountain People" just got published and will be in the next issue of Appalachian Free Press. Very excited for this one! The essay concerns government and industry negligence/abuse in Appalachia and what it means for the future of the region.

Happy New Year's Eve! Time on the cusp of rebirth, hope, ending of cycles. Time on the cusp of December's end, a newborn month soon in our arms. No better set of reasons to celebrate, really. 🌟🌟 Hope springs eternal and you should too.

Does anyone know of any publications that especially like ekphrastic creative nonfiction? I've got a few pieces I'm proud of that I'd love to give a home in the new year.

I have been wanting to read more work in translation and found this wonderful novel. "The Place of Shells" by Mai Ishizawa (translated by Polly Barton) is gutwrenching and beautiful. It grapples with personal grief and the fragile nature of reality bittersweetly.
