80 years ago #OTD the Bulgarian communist party and her allies (all of whom were dissolved in two years) took control of Bulgaria following a coup d'etat and the invasion of the Red army. What followed was the decimation of Bulgaria's social, intellectual and military elite.

Bulgarian king Ferdinand died #OTD in 1948. His remains were brought back to Bulgaria few weeks ago and laid to rest in the palace of Vrana near Sofia. A controversial figure in BG history, Ferdinand was the only monarch to be directly chosen by the Bulgarian people.
