Over the last week, media reports have given differing estimates for undercounting of covid toll. While all have the same overall message, here's a quick note to dispel confusion. This is for calculations by me, Rema Nagarajan, Abhishek Jha, Samreen Wani (Mint, TOI, HT, Hindu):

So, was Gujarat's level of undercounting 33x or 44x? It depends on which permutation/combination you use above. The important thing is: the message by all of us is the same, that covid deaths in 2021 are likely to have been many times higher than what was officially reported.
