things being a writer taught me - your story is important - you will get better the more you write - nobody knows where commas go - if you have anxiety, your character will get anxiety. just watch. - if you fix one plot hole you will, undoubtedly, create seven smaller plot holes

"do i want to read this book or is it just really really really beautiful?" the bookworm asks, pensively buying it anyway.

here is a writer truth: you don't have to write fast, or have gone to uni, or have fancy industry connections, or be abled, or have an exciting life, or write world-changing books to be a worthwhile author. your work isn't less important. please write your heart out.

get your gal what she really wants this holiday: a wolf-hound, a wine train, the better half of Derbyshire, a staircase for grandly descending in a white gown, a mug that says “world’s bonniest wee lass,” a brass locket for summoning an ancient evil to fetch her tea and slippers.

I see a lot of men saying they have no intention of seeing the new “Little Women” and I can only assume it's because they know they aren’t strong enough to handle the story’s many twists and turns and worry that they will be sobbing their eyes out.

nothing like living through a pandemic to make you understand why Jane Austen’s original readers swooned when Mr Darcy said, “I trust your family is in good health.”
