We are excited to congratulate the Newcomb Family, long-time Museum supporters, and avid bulldog art collectors, on their 2022 AKC Breeder of the Year award nomination! They fell in love with the bulldog breed in the 1960s and it’s easy to see why.

Often associated with a solid, dark colored coat, the Newfoundland dog also has a black-and-white variety known as a ‘Landseer coat' from the artist, Sir Edwin Landseer, who popularized the look in his paintings. You can meet this Landseer Newf with us on 4/22 12-2pm!

We are still howling with delight from our dog-filled programs this weekend! We started with pet friendly Furry Friday, then a meet and greet with K9 water rescue Newfies, and capped it off with Breed Spotlight with Manchester Terriers! 😀🐾

We enjoyed a visit to the American Kennel Club office from Westminster Kennel Club Best in Show winner Buddy Holly today! Look at his winning ribbon almost as long as our Edu Manager’s 5 ft wingspan!

Can’t get enough of Westminster Kennel Club Best in Show winner, Buddy Holly? Neither can we—so we put this lovely sculpture by Audrey Fournier Mulligan (c.1990) out on view. If you’re in NYC pay him a visit!

Did you know the dog featured in the Westminster Kennel Club ’s logo was a real dog? His name was Sensation and he came from England as a foundation stud in 1876. See him in The Haunt of the Woodcock: Sensation and Bang Bang by John Martin Tracy c.1886 at the AKC MoD!

Coursing is a dog sport that pits 2 greyhounds to hunt a hare using sight not scent. This collar allows the contest to be fair as explained by Adjunct Curator, Alan Fausel. See it and more in Identity & Restraint: Art of the Dog Collar on view now!
