My perspective on AAs; a 🧵 I was an ANP before medical school and am now a specialty doctor in anaesthetics. I work with 2 qualified AAs who are excellent, I am often asked for my opinion given my background, so here it is a long thread including my own story.

Some food for thought on the debate of the #pubertyblocker ban. These are good questions that Wes Streeting should be able to defend if he's going to follow the Tory's, in what I suspect was an attack driven by their culture war.

This is a terrible political decision, which will cause incredible harm to trans people. Prescribing decisions should be for clinicians with patients (and families), not politicians. The ban should be reversed. 🧵

This is simply staggering. Far from ‘not replacing’ doctors, PAs are being used as doctor substitutes in all manner of hospital on-call rotas. Worse - doctors are even being substituted by *trainee* PAs. This is a patient safety disaster. Please intervene, Wes Streeting.
