It's amazing what's possible with backyard telescopes these days. I was able to capture a supernova happening in another galaxy in this photo... can you spot it? This photo of the pinwheel galaxy is formatted as a mobile wallpaper for you to enjoy, I'm posting these daily!

Yesterday I shared a photo of a supernova from a distance. This is what an older supernova looks like to my telescope after a couple thousand years. Behold the intricate beauty of the Crab nebula. This is formatted as a phone wallpaper for you to enjoy. I'm posting these daily!

Over 5 years ago I combined multiple astrophotography techniques to create a hyper-detailed moon photo. This photo changed my life thanks to the attention it received, and helped turn a hobby into a career. This is a mobile wallpaper format, I’m still sharing these daily.

During the next full moon, a partial lunar eclipse will be visible depending on your location, like in this HDR photo captured from my backyard in 2022. This is formatted as a mobile wallpaper for you to save and use. Enjoy! I’m still posting these daily.

Last year, the moon at Apogee passed in front of the Sun, causing an Annular Eclipse. I drove to Utah to capture a photo of the event, showing the “ring of fire” in all its glory. This is formatted as a mobile wallpaper, enjoy! I’ll post another tomorrow.

The sun is putting on a nice show today. I've been shooting this flaring region nonstop for the past 4 hours, yielding some of the cleanest time-lapse footage I've shot to date. I'll share it soon. I formatted this as a mobile wallpaper, enjoy! I'll post another tomorrow.

Note- this is just a static image made from about 75,000 individual images. The timelapse I'll be sharing later will be a video from several hours of footage made from ~half a million photos.

I had to stop shooting thanks to a thunderstorm… I got 5.5 hours of footage. I’ll share it tomorrow morning so you can see how these features move. Turn on my post notifications if you don’t want to miss it!

Here's today's solar activity with Earth to scale. This image was created from over 5 hours worth of exposures using a modified telescope from my backyard. I'll share the time-lapse footage created from these images tomorrow morning.

Here’s the time-lapse I promised you from yesterday’s solar activity. Complete with Earth to scale and a bonus of the sun’s rotation. This is easily one of my cleanest time-lapses I’ve managed over such a long period. Enjoy!

This week is a great time to look for earthshine after sunset, the dark side of the moon illuminated by Earth. In long exposures you can see lunar features, like in this composite photo I captured in 2019. This is cropped as a phone wallpaper for you, I’m posting these daily!

I’ve been getting tons of questions about how I capture the sun at this level of detail. I actually wrote an article about it you can check out: cosmicbackground.io/blogs/learn-ab… I’ll try and do a more comprehensive X post about it as well soon. I want more people to learn to do this!

By setting up a telescope in exactly the right point on Earth and using an extremely fast shutter speed, I can capture the ISS against a specific backdrop. In this case, the Apollo 11 landing site. This is cropped as a phone wallpaper for you. Enjoy! I’ll post another tomorrow.

By using 2 cameras and 2 telescopes, I can create composite images of our moon that more accurately demonstrate the feeling of watching it drift through our skies. The moon is a perfect subject for art. This is formatted as a mobile wallpaper, enjoy! Still posting them daily.

Using a 12" scope I photographed this star-forming region of the Milky Way for dozens of hours. Stellar winds and gravity sculpt fascinating shapes from the interstellar medium, leaving behind these beautiful features. This is formatted as a mobile wallpaper, enjoy! More coming!

A shot of the moon and Venus captured from a camera I left in Texas (while operating from home) Tonight I’ll point this camera at parts of the Milky Way to capture detailed panorama of our home galaxy.
