The final (formatted) version of our nature study on bat virus spillover is now online nature.com/articles/s4158… Over the 25 year study, we observed a transition from large nomadic bat populations feeding in native forests to small resident populations feeding in human-areas.

Some mvRNAs, such as PA60 and PA66 (or PB1-64 and PB1-66), accumulate early - between 3 & 6 hours post infection (hpi). More highly produced mvRNAs tend to accumulate at earlier times, to boot. (10/X)

We also looked at mvRNA subcellular localization using biochemical fractionation, and found that PA-60 and PA-66 accumulate in the cytoplasm between 6 hpi and 8 hpi. Also, PA-60 is found more frequently in the nucleus than PA-66. (12/X)

Transient RNA structures contribute to highly pathogenic flu emergence! Fantastic work by Mathis Funk and Mathilde Richard now on BioRxiv: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… For supporting data see: science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Elucidation of the molecular mechanism by which avian influenza virus rapidly increases its ability to cause mortality. #vogelgriep

How do viruses go from LPAI to HPAI? The RNA structure use to trap polymerase drives insertions into the cleavage site. Insertion frequencies strongly affected by substitutions in flanking regions. Big implications of this study!!! 👉biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
