Today is the 56th anniversary of the Inangahua Earthquake, which killed 3 and injured 14. The small locality of farmers, miners, electrical workers, and Railway families (including mine) was evacuated to Reefton, many never returning to Inangahua.

KiwiRails "blast from the past" get more and more absurd. KiwiRail exited the profitable car transport market in 2014, because it didn't fit the container-only strategy dreamt up by the government appointed board. Net result: rail freight has decreased further. Stupidity.

Bit of a traditional wet West Coast welcome for my first day living in Māwhera Greymouth ☔️ (As an aside, the new library being built on the left is going to be amazing when it's complete!)

The new Grey District Library and Community Hub is currently being built, and it's going to be amazing when it opens at the end of the year! 📚

Greymouth, 1981 & today. Where the railway line once branched down the riverbank to the coal wharf is now the Floodwall, built after the 1988 floods. The Tranzalpine was leaving when I took todays photo & the Rewanui miners train is at the old Riverside Station in the 1981 shot

Remembering my great great uncle Thomas Gillanders, killed in action 110 years ago on 25 April 1915, during the landing at Gallipoli while serving with the 16th Waikato Company, Auckland Battalion.

Today, we honour and remember those who served and sacrificed for our country. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. To the end, they remain. Ka maumahara tonu tātou ki a rātou.

Ch 2 'Sunday in Dunedin' ends with Starkie stating "Always Sunday in Dunedin". Touché! At one point, "Towards evening he was in the bar of the City Hotel. . ." that would not have changed much since seen here on the righthand corner c. 1900 and before its art deco refit in 1930s.
