but no, they just pay lip service to 'diverse audiences' without actually giving the room for experimentation that those audiences demand. a damn shame.

the central contradiction of trying to pay the bills through a liberal suburban donor base while accurately reporting on one of the most segregated cities in the country is a really challenging one to reconcile. but at MINIMUM–it could be acknowledged!

bez was, for many years, a space i viewed with reverence. but the more people i talk to who work within the offices, the more stories i hear of how creativity has been stifled.

it's an essay, not a tweet, but the radical potential of a publicly funded radio station with bureaus in diff parts of the city being subsumed by the interests of a pub radio station coasting off of legacy podcasts that are produced without them is really godamn sad.

i had the honor of guest cohosting on Vocalo Radio 91.1 w/ Jill Hopkins a few years back–as someone trying to chart new paths in movement media, so much felt possible to me because this station existed. a sad day for chicago's music and media-making community.
