Intriguing! Tang lit (9th ct) knows a dish called 櫻桃饆饠, i.e. cherry 'biluo' (MC *pjit-la). Some ppl have thought it to be 'pilaf,' but the dish apparently was a dumpling w/o rice. Victor Mair suggests that *pjit-la 饆饠 is cognate to 'pierogi' (<Proto-Slavic *pirogъ) instead!
