#Daring ventures has been a life changing 4 days. It has given us the courage to think out of our comfort zone and help us initiate change in our own lives and in our school communities. Also, making connections with others and hearing their ‘real’ stories was fascinating 🙏

Every school already engages in a Relational Approach, whether consciously or not. Every teacher already oversees this. That's because the children in the classroom are human. Their biology IS relational. The core question is whether the relationships feel safe or threatening.

Stress especlly for young children warps biology because no one helped, no one repaired ruptures. That dynamic is the central, core one for health.

I have come to think it is just really really hard for most of us to imagine that the events of childhood - the ordinary daily hurts & sadness & comforts - have that much to do with who we are as adults. The study of childhood trauma asks us to imagine this. It is a radical ask.

I got impatient today in a planning meeting. I said: "Why do our systems keep using the terms 'violent' & 'aggressive' to describe our children? This is OUR doing. WE are the adults. We have failed in OUR responsibility. Why are we choosing words that hold children responsible?"
