There aren’t many places that get it as consistently right as Glyndebourne. I have never seen a bad production there and this year’s Carmen no exception.

Glyndebourne utterly wonderful Carmen .. strong cast, great dancing, superb chorus and a modern version which actually worked - for the music and the audience, rather than just indulging a director’s desire to put their mark on it.

So I thought the hype about ⁦⁦Glyndebourne⁩ ‘s Carmen this summer was just that. But no! The semi-staged production at ⁦BBC Proms⁩ was ELECTRIC. 🎶🎶 The ⁦Royal Albert Hall⁩ was packed & roaring. Bravo all and especially Rihab Chaieb & Janai Brugger

Last night's Prom was an eagerly anticipated visit from Glyndebourne: Bizet’s eternally popular red-blooded opera, ‘Carmen’💃✨ Bravo and thank you to Anja Bihlmaier, London Philharmonic Orchestra, @Glyndebourne Chorus & the international line-up of soloists with Rihab Chaieb at centre-stage 👏

Glyndebourne brings its new Carmen production to the BBC Proms: a triumph for the vocal stars, the LPO on sparkling form and for conductor Anja Bihlmaier. See my review for OPERA TODAY: operatoday.com/2024/08/prom-5…

Commentators pretending to believe that Glyndebourne's wind turbine is at fault for failing to compensate for multiple power cuts on Saturday. We rely on the grid to operate. The turbine keeps the bills down. One adds: "you could not make it up". Reader, they made it up.

Last year the wind turbine produced almost as much energy as we used. There's a surplus in the winter (more wind, fewer performances) and a deficit in the summer (vice versa). We sell surplus to the grid and the energy generated keeps our bills down. Unrelated to power cuts.
