Despite highs in the 90s and 100s for the next several days, our councilmember Councilwoman Heather Hutt has scheduled four Ktown sweeps tomorrow. The city is opening emergency cooling centers, but people can't go to them because they have to move everything they own for the sweep.

This is what makes the city's response to homelessness so baffling. Councilwoman Heather Hutt's office knows that extreme heat puts unhoused people in danger, hence the cooling centers. But their office sees nothing wrong with trashing the possessions people use to shelter from the weather

The city should not be conducting sweeps at all, but it certainly should cancel them when weather poses a serious risk to the health and safety of people living outdoors.

Do you think it's humane to throw away everything an unhoused person has during a projected heatwave of 105°? LA is doing that this week. Please call your local city council person and the mayor and demand they cease sweeps during the heatwave and open up cooling centers.

We're glad the city is backing off of these sweeps. This is a win for organizers who have been asking them to do this for days. Damage has already been done by sweeps yesterday and today. But its good to see the city acknowledging that these sweeps are harmful.

Vets say that on hot days you should put your hand down and touch concrete - if you can't comfortably touch it for 10 seconds your dog shouldn't walk. It was 102° and I couldn't put my hand down for 2 seconds today. I didn't walk my dog. 60,000 ppl are living outside in this.

Very funny that cops don't want to be recorded throwing away the belongings of the most vulnerable. Might be because they are + look like absolute fucking monsters. 🤷‍♀️
