🚨Breaking news! The #Opportunity4All Act (AB 2586) passed the CA Assembly Higher Ed Committee today.
As AB 2586 recognizes, the University of California, The CSU & California Community Colleges have the legal authority to hire any of their students, regardless of immigration status. #O4All
So many of them were explicitly eugenicist! Ahilan Arulanantham has done a lot of work exposing the history of the laws criminalizing illegal entry that we have on the books today.
The history of Nativism in American politics of this era is still relevant. twitter.com/JSPattonHimsel…

“Today’s decision is a victory for the 1.5 million people who have jumped at the opportunity to sponsor loved ones under this program & it is a critical repudiation of Texas’s attempt to hold immigration policy hostage for the entire country.” -Monika Langarica

Sam Anthony lived *40* yrs in D.C. before Trump admin unjustly deported him. He is one of hundreds of Black immigrants who suffer double punishment. Victims of racial injustice of war on drugs AND our immigration system. Sam deserves a #ChancetoComeHome 👇🏽

SOOO EXCITING!!!!! Texas lost on standing, mostly because the CHNV program decreases migration from those four countries. Congratulations to Monika Langarica Talia Inlender from UCLA Center for Immigration Law and Policy and Esther Sung Karen Tumlin & colleagues from Justice Action Center (JAC), and the team from RAICES
State leaders must reckon with the reality that DACA is no longer available to most CA students - leaving them in precarious academic and financial situations.
The #Opportunity4All Act is an essential step forward to ensure equity for all California students.
#Opportunity4All is grounded in sound legal authority, which makes clear that state entities like the UC, CSU & CA Community Colleges aren’t bound by federal law prohibiting hiring of undocumented workers. State universities can hire these students today. nytimes.com/2022/10/19/us/…
This comes less than a month after the University of California deferred a promise to pursue #O4All on campus. Yet students have continued to organize.
