Born on the 24th of May 1926, Agnes Owens would have turned 99 today. Agnes wrote darkly comic stories of everyday working-class life. She was offered advice by Alasdair which she reciprocated, evidence of which is in both AGA & Agnes Owens Archive opening later this year.

On Friday afternoon we hosted an inspiring conversation with Prof Enrico Terrinoni and Rodge Glass on translating Alasdair Gray’s work into Italian. Thanks to IIC Edimburgo for their support, to all attendees and to Alasdair Watson Photography for the wonderful photographs. Recording coming soon!

Our next timeline post is 13: In 1959 Alasdair enrolled in Jordanhill Teacher Training College. He would continue to work sporadically as an educator throughout much of the rest of his life. ‘Illustrations from the front of a 1959 notebook’ Alasdair Gray, SC at University of Glasgow
