Every x402 payment is a Solana transaction. That sounds fine until you do the math. One API call = one on-chain tx = ~$0.0005 in fees. At 1,000 calls, nobody notices. At 1 million calls, that's $500 burned on gas alone — not on the API, not on compute, just on moving money.
