Two weeks ago I finally went back down to Boulby Underground Laboratory, first time since 2015! Wow, it’s changed & it’s in the middle of changing even more with the current expansion! I’m so excited for all the dark matter & quantum sensing experiments that might call Boulby home in the future ✨

A very fun (and busy!) day yesterday for Doors Open Days showcasing the awesome Remote3 programme we run with Science and Technology Facilities Council & Boulby Underground Laboratory! We helped lots of children learn to program the little LEGO rovers to detect water on “Mars!” Remote3 Physics Astro @ Edin Particle Physics Experiment - PPE - Edinburgh

No lectures this week.... alas

Just had a memory unlocked of how in undergrad our classifications for the year (1st/2.1/2.2 etc) were put on a physical notice board you had to go look at (or if you were at Glastonbury as I was a couple of times a friend could text you 😂) Does this still happen anywhere?!

Had a lot of fun delivering a general interest seminar for Dark Matter Day (featuring LZ Dark Matter) last night! It’s pretty spooky that we only understand 5% of the universe… 🌌👻

Washing machine delivery men asked if I had someone coming to install it. Bitch please, I built and leak tested a 17T liquid scintillator detector with 10 acrylic tanks & 3 separate filling reservoirs, I am practically a plumber. 👩🏼‍🔧 (I did still call my dad to double check 😅…)

Clearing through old stuff post flat move. Why was this sponsored by oil companies…? 🤔 (looking at this year’s - now STEM for Britain - it seems this isn’t the case any more)

I had fun doing this seminar and not only was I happy to see some of my students come along, I invited my parents as they had just arrived to help us move! They understood absolutely nothing 🫡

Edinburgh #MoRunning! Ran a 10K (2 laps of Holyrood with an uphill that is not to be sniffed at) yesterday in LESS THAN IDEAL conditions ❄️🥶! No PRs, just happy to do it without slipping over, and proud of team Physics Astro @ Edin Particle Physics Experiment - PPE - Edinburgh who raised over £800 for Movember UK🥸!
