📢'The World Is Your Oyster' is for those who are born in global north countries--don't experience visa bureaucracy & emotional burden that non-white global south scholars do. Citizenship is a privilege that we need to recognize in the academe. 1/n

The mismatch on number of LGBTQ+ students and faculty is striking (at least at high research intensity universities in the USA).

Tomorrow at Università Bocconi: our discussion of the challenges (and opportunities) that an academic career abroad presents in a world where international scholar mobility becomes a requirement or even the only chance to secure an academic job, while barriers for foreigners persist:

Why can't academics give up flying?

We identified cultural, individual, and organizational reasons academics think we can't decarbonize research production.

Especially relevant as more conferences & workshops return to offline-only formats.

Interesting presentation next Wednesday at Bocconi by Giulia Maimone! The authors find that scholars are less cited following a sexual misconduct accusation, but not following a scientitific fraud accusation.

In a new article in Scientific Reports I find that male PhD students are almost twice as likely than female PhD students to obtain a cum laude distinction for their dissertation. A cum laude is very rare, and only awarded to 5% of Dutch PhD students. 1/5

'Fully exonerated' keeps being repeated by Falk-related spokesmen.

I don't think that word means what they think it means.

Great coverage of the IZA issue in Bloomberg.

'If your data contradicts the common wisdom: ignore your data.' It seems that Ross et al. followed this advice when they concluded in their recent nature article that women are credited less likely authorship in 'most scientific fields'. See our comment: osf.io/preprints/soca…

IZA For those just tuning in: Nora Szech accused Armin of sexual harassment last fall. There was a very weak “investigation” at briq (the institute he runs) and he was cleared. Nora committed suicide this fall. Armin was just promoted to lead a much more important organization.

Researchers are revolting against weekend conferences.
Parents want to keep conferences and meetings strictly to working hours.
We can and should do more to make academia better for working parents.
