Glad to see opposition to the Business Improvement District (BID) model. Always seemed to me to be a way of fleecing businesses - who are already paying high business rates - to fund work councils should be doing, thereby enabling councils to waste even more money.

Against BID thanks goodness I’ve retired from any business in a BID area. Poor ROI, ideas to bring the wrong social demographic for my business into town, poor representation. Allows councils to be laizze fair has been my experience. Forced payment is totally unacceptable.

I can’t believe small businesses are still being ripped off by this levy. They don’t help businesses but they do make money for those running it.

Jack Shaw A voluntary framework is not good enough, both The BID Foundation and British BIDs have tried similar approaches for years with very little success. To help drive up BID company standards which clearly the government feels is necessary, mandatory standards are required.

The government needing to run this forum is an acknowledgement of just how bad standards across the BID industry are.

BIDS are the SCAMS WHICH KEEP GIVING!

This is a cartel arrangement between the c70 hotels. If a BID is voted in there will be no legal basis for them to charge their customers a ‘tourist tax’. FACT is it will be voluntary for each hotel if they want to charge it as a supplementary charge.
